Thanks Guys

Well, a quick minute here to "de-stress" after work. The deal with Dad is an abdominal aortic aneurysm that needs attention. He's had it for over 3 years and it's been fine as the docs have monitored it. But, since he was t-boned at a red light and ICBC has been doing the dick around with him, his blood pressure's shot up and the aneurysm is bulging beyond 5 mm, which is the danger zone. Mom had a brain aneurysm nearly 20 years ago and we just about lost her - she pulled through but is paralyzed on her left side. Dad's just been through chemo and we're not sure if he can endure any more surgery. So another bout of shit for us it seems. Actually, I think I will continue to blog, 'cause if I don't have somewhere to "vent" I may explode. My Dad's my world (other than my kids, of course) - he's the best. So pray if you believe that shit or do a wicken style dance or whatever. We could use the help right about now. Thanks for the support.

LOL @ wiccan style dance. I don't know if they do that, I could ask my mom though. :P

Seriously though, I'm sorry to hear about everything that's going on though, Debz. I don't know if I can dance out any goodness for you, but my thoughts will be with you and all of your family.

*cyber hugs*

Much love to you...

One of my daughter's best friends is wiccan (thanks - sp!) - and she constantly makes reference to it. She was recently with her when she bought some kind of dust or rocks or something to perform something. I didn't buy into it. Her solution for everything is her "wiccanness", so I now picture Chennelle dancing around Dad in her long, flowing skirt, throwing magic dust over him. She also wears very goth makeup and, in all honesty, is very "confused" in life. I guess she may have tainted my view somewhat, as this was my first "taste" of wiccan (which, she and her mother also "hide" from her father?). A good time to mention that this girl also thinks she's a vampire (for real), so I guess I've tied it all in together to a general skepticism and have associated it all with the "wiccan" part. No offense to your mom, though. My motto is "to each his own". I just don't really understand the wiccan thing yet and , with this family being the one demonstrating it to me, it's become a mysterious kind of witchcraft with potions and secrecy. I shy away from it only because they've made it seem so strange! You seem very "grounded" to me, so I'm sure your mom is quite different than these flakes. And now I'll probably re-evaluate how I feel about it and may learn what it's really about from you. 'Cause these nutbars had me keeping my distance!

and thanks for the support re Dad - we've made the decision to "put on hold" any worry or concern (yea right) until after the 28th, which is when he sees the specialist. Our good ol' medical system - "sir, you have a life threatening condition that needs immediate attention - we've booked you for the 28th"?! What the hell is that? I'll probably be a bit of a flake myself as we wait.

There are some people here that, while I don't always agree with them, I certainly don't want to offend them as I truly value their "friendship" and think they are very cool, decent people - you'd be in that group. So I hope I didn't do that.

Well, I don't know how much I could tell you about Wicca, but I can definitely tell you anyone who simultaneously wears goth make up and claims to be a vampire is only Wiccan just to SAY they're Wiccan. Somehow the novelty of it is fascinating to these kids, and then they grow up and go on to be agnostics. It has nothing to do with being goth, any true Wiccan should be able to look like any other person you see on the street. It's also got nothing to do with Satanism, which goes hand in hand with gothism. For Wiccan's, their diety is mother earth, meaning there is no "god", which means there is no "satan". Any real Wiccan is never allowed to do any of the black arts, any spell or tradition they perform can never be used negatively, they can only be done if the result is beneficial for themselves or their loved ones. They also tend to be naturalists in the sense that they consume only organic products, never intake any unnatural chemical, because it would affect the earth itself.

And no, no one flies around on broom sticks.

But yes, some of their solstice traditions do involve dancing in a group while naked.

It is not to be confused with any other type of witchcraft that involves sacrificing or voodoo dolls or anything of the sort. Wiccans use white magic and are against anything that would be considered "evil".

I myself am an agnostic and am not into Wicca like my mom is, but I guarantee you she wears no goth make up and doesn't dress in black and doesn't put hexes on anyone, and though I don't share her beliefs, I have nothing but respect for them because they revolve around peace and health.

I hope that's helped change what your daugther's friend has led you to believe. :P

Thank you, it most certainly has. The whole thing with it for me was the "unknown" - I'd never really even heard of wicca before, then these nutbars were my only clue in learning about it. Both the mom and daughter were wiccan, but they wouldn't let the Dad know (which, right there, struck me as weird - why the illusiveness?). You've painted a much better picture for me and I appreciate it, as looking at these two all I could think was "what the fuck"? They also had some sort of "plate" that was symbolic for something yet, when one of them was mad, they broke it!!? So, I question their "seriousness" about the whole deal. Your Mom sounds very grounded (like you) and, actually, wicca sounds much more appealing the way you've described it. Kinda cool even.
