My Throne

If someone were to ask me where my favorite place in the entire world is, this would be it. I grew up here, this was virtually my "back yard"...our house being a stone's throw away. And, although my place now is a few miles away, this is where I bike to when I ride. The end of the line - as far west as we can go here. And, if we were to hop in a boat and continue west, we'd eventually hit toccata's place. This is where I come to figure things out. To remember my Grandpa, who I used to bump into nearly every time I'd come here...he was an old fisherman who couldn't tear himself away from the river...had to be near it. I cleanse, refresh and recharge here, on this rock. And I get pissed off if I show up and someone's got the audacity to be in "my spot". It happened here and I did a lot of "hmmf's" and eyeball rolling. They way overstayed their limit.

It's not uncommon to see someone, over to the right, along the "hunter's trail". But only the brave go there, it's a treacherous venture and we used to "steal away" there as kids. Last time I was there (last year) my bike and I fell into a hole up to my waist and I nearly went right through, into the river. Luckily there were tree roots that stopped me midway and tangled me up in them. My ex was there, quite amused he was.

Funny, sometimes I'll be sitting there, in my own little "zone" and I look over and there he is, right across the water with his dog. Stalker.

I love that rock. It looks so inviting - you could even take a nap on it, if so inclined.

been there, done that Barb. It's just the best place to be. For a place that's "booming" like Richmond is, it's not uncommon to find real peace and tranquility here...with noone around at times. A few more years and it'll probably be mobbed with people. But for now, it's still my little secret. Ssshh.

going to see Mom now (stalling...it's so damn foggy out. back later - have a good night my dear)

Your special place looks really nice and inviting. Everyone needs such a place.

I will probably be up late so if you need some company when you return from seeing your mom you can find me on the web. I just decided blogger needs to have a special bleeping sound when someone needs a friend.

Hi tc.
You're so sweet. I needed a friendly voice tonight...kind of a rough one. It's all catching up today.

I used to have such a place in the woods. Typical me, I found this place, like a kind of crater in the woods (actually I found THREE of them) and told no-one. When my Dad found one of the places quite by chance he called it the Rupert hole as it was like something out of one of the Rupert Bear stories of magic and mystery ... (I'm pretty sure they're mostly a Brit thing- beautifully illustrated picture books with the story in rhyme and prose so you can read whichever you prefer ...)

When you say you "fell through" you mean fell through ice? You must have been FREEEEEEZZZing!!!

I have a similar type spot, though on a MUCH smaller scale. I have a creek that's about 4-6 feet wide that runs along the back of our yard with several large boulders in it that provide seating, and lovely little "waterfalls" ( In the winter it's about 7-10 feet deep). It's my "zen" spot.

Fell asleep in front of the television. Unfortunately, I only have a love seat and this morning I am stiff and sore. Need to get outside for a long walk and loosen up. Sorry, to hear you had a rough night and I'm very sorry I did not hear the bleep.

I agree, I 'bleep' is a good idea. Hope today finds you a little better Deb.

That place does sound very inviting (to steal what everyone else just said). There is a place near the inside of Stanley Park that I feel at home, even though it isn't home. Hey, is it warm enough to bike out there these days? I'm bringing my trainers when I visit next week anyways.

gleds....I have a Rupert book that was my son's. my mum in law brought it back from one of her many visits "home". and no, not ice Gled...along the river bank there are big holes where the tide has eroded things. You'll be walking along and suddenly there's a pit that goes straight through, to the river below. They're covered with long, overgrown grass so you can't see them.

wotv...creekside with waterfalls sounds nice too! I guess we all have our little "stowaways", hey?

tc....no worries. I was just "checking in". I hate falling asleep on something too small to sleep on (like the hospital chair the other night)! Palliative's wearing on me...the fellow that had shared a room with Mom died and it wasn't a peaceful thing. I've gotten close to the family and the son was taking the whole ordeal particularly hard...his Dad was fighting it all the way. It was very traumatic. And did you know the nurses told me there are more deaths around the full moon than any other time? Last fm there were 4 on the floor!

Allison...there are moments where it's almost warm enough but generally it's still pretty cold. If you wear the right gear you'll be o.k. When are you coming....we can meet and ride together?

Glad Blogger's working for you. It's nice to have a special place isn't it; how dare those other people be there!!! Like your post for Gleds.

There's nothing like a special, private spot. We kids had one when we grew up on the farm.

A slight sloping hill about a total of 10 feet total elevation. It was way back in one of the farthest fields. Quite a walk to get to.

It was fun to walk out to. We would just hang around there, away from everyone else.

Nice pictures too, BTW.

thanks ruth. I know, those people should've read the sign. Oh, I need to put a sign there.

Rob...lucky to have grown up on a farm. That would be my dream (and my daughter's). We used to be mostly farm out here...the contrast now is quite something. Farms on one side of the street, brand new highrises on the other.

kelly...i like your comment. "the jerk", that's funny. I like the early am sun on the face feeling too. Or the twilight hours.
