Mel's 90's Inspired Me

See how scattered I am? About seventeen seconds after I explained why I'd be absent, here I am. Bear with me, I'm not in one piece right now.

I loved Mel's 90's selections and that has prompted me to list mine. Some are 80's, but I listened to them well into the 90's, so they count. My rules (heehee - cheater). Here they are (in no particular order):

1/ Ten (in its entirety) - Pearl Jam (sorry)
2/ Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns - Mother Love Bone
3/ Underground - Moist
4/ She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult
5/ Symbolistic White Walls - Matt Good
6/ Nutshell - Alice In Chains
7/ Change - Blind Melon
8/ Teen Angst - Cracker
9/ Blow At High Dough - Hip
10/ Zombie - Cranberries

(and, if you steal someone else's, it need not have a number. So I'm adding What's Up - 4 Non Blondes)

(and, if you think of some really important ones, your list becomes your top 12)

11/ Oh Me - Nirvana
12/ Nearly Lost You - Screaming Trees
13/ Entire Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins

(oh, I forgot to tell you about the baker's dozen?! I'm pathetic when it comes to decisions. I better sign out now, before this turns into my top 100 of the 90's....I'd still not be done).

Hhhm, no REM on there. Or Temple Of The Dog. Oh, and The Man You Fear.... I feel a top 100 coming on. I am completely hopeless when it comes to "whittling down" favorite songs. One leads to another, leads to another.....

I look at your list and wonder where the heck was I in the 90's? I don't know any of this music. REM I know. I was thinking maybe it was a generation thing and then I saw that we are exactly the same age! I'm feeling totally uncool right now.

You were probably busy with other stuff, Toccata. That happened to me with the 80s - I'm just discovering some wonderful music from that period now, courtesy of my daughter.

I have to laugh how you can't keep a list to 10 either, Deb! Hardest thing in the world. Although I like how if you steal it from someone else, it doesn't count.

For the longest time, I thought, instead of "my gun it lies next to me, whispering", Matt was singing "Kenneth lies next to me, whispering" in Symbolistic White Walls, and I was all "ooh, homoeroticism!"

Funny...I felt totally uncool when I was listening to that stuff toccata. Somehow there was part of my brain telling me "it's time to grow up and listen to more 'mature' stuff and let the kids listen to this". But, when it comes to music, I like what I like. And that's what I liked. That being said, I was a "closet" listener and when I'd meet the other PAC moms I'd cringe as I'd have to sit through their music, all the while secretly digging the tunes coming out of their kid's rooms.

Barbara...I laughed at your interpretation. I don't recall those lyrics. Funny how we can get fixated on our own lyrics and they somehow fit for us. Then, when we learn the correct version, it just doesn't seem right. Happens to me all the time!!

Mel...I was in a bad mood 'till I hit your site and then I was all like "yyyyyea, this looks like fun" and "oh, I love that song". Thanks ;)

Who can keep a list to 10? Its impossible when it comes to music.
You've picked some good ones there, and made me think I should start to make a list. Although I think this decade has been where a wealth of my music would come from, or the 80s. Hmm...thanks for getting me to think Deb!

I've been thinking of doing my own 90's mix as well. Must be something in the air ... or "Something in the Way" - that would certainly be on there.

Mel - I always end up cracking a smile at your place ;)

Allison - Those "top tens" are impossible...especially when there's so much music to love.

Barbara - had me a little puzzled there!!! But I chalked it up to me singing the wrong lyrics for all these years (which wouldn't be the first time I've murdered a song). Yes indeed, Alabama Motel Room it was. But you're not an idiot at all...human, that's all!

Oh Will, Something In The Way...I love that one. As well as Something In The Air (Thunderclap Newman). I remember that one from "The Magic Christian"

Interesting list. There are a few groups I don't know which I'll probably look up later.

Since I'm from the Chicago area, how about Wilco?

Thunderclap. Loved his song. Forgot all about it.
