Downtown Vancouver, 1950's
Allison just asked the question "what era would you like to dress from?", to which I answered the 50's. This picture is of my Mom (right) and my two aunts on a Friday night in Vancouver. This is how young women dressed to go out to movies, dinner, clubs, etc. Now do you think maybe Lindsay, Paris, Brittney and others from that scene could learn a few things by stepping back in time?

This picture was taken by a street photographer - they were common back then. They'd snap pictures of people passing by on Granville Street in Vancouver and you could then purchase them for a small fee.

(I'll be sharing more pics of my parents from this era, as I find them interesting. Dad had a James Dean/Elvis cool thing going on and those will be next!)

That is such a great picture. My parents said at one time people got all glammed up for the Saskatchewan Roughrider Games. Women even wore long gowns! I love pretty clothes so that era is also one of my favorites.

How fun! I love fashion from other eras, that's one of the good reasons to watch older movies...

They are some stylin women! And that is a great photo. Still, I can't help thinking that my scuffy old shoes are probably more comfy than the heels.

O wow!¬!

I once sat on a quiet tube train on a quiet Sunday opposite this young late teens/early 20something young lady dressed in full-on 1940s garb ... right down to the old lady's pushme-pullyou shopping trolley she had everything done all kitchy and right ... and I don't think she was an actress or extra from filming somewhere bc she was poised as if this was "her look" I have never seen anything quite like it since ...

tc...I can believe that about the games. Outings were all red carpet affairs apparently!

sebastien...true about the old movies.

barbara...I'm with you on the comfy shoes for sure. In every picture I have from back then they're "styling", I see no sign of "letting things go". Pressure.

gled...what an eye catcher she must've been. I always people watch and wonder where people are going, etc.

kelly...howdy partner.

I looooove old pics! What a great photo.

I love fashion from the 2o's the absolute best, but with the 50's coming in a fairly close second.

I couldn't do fifties unless I was a greaser, I can't stand wearing suits.

junky...Dad did the whole greaser thing. To this day, he hates wearing a suit too.
