I used to hate alcohol too. So much so someone once pointed out in astonishment to me at a party that having known me for 3 years he'd never seen me drunk. He hadn't... I always hated the feeling of booze coming on. That hot burning feeling in the stomach. Not nice. And I never thought it rated as compared to drugs drugs (and didn't THAT get me in trouble...)

I have had loads of miserable Xmases and look ~ I'm still here.
OK, maybe I'm not the best example but...
You still got to be careful with drink. I didn't like the taste for years, but I got immune to it and still drink too much to this day. Though barely a fifth of what I used to. I used to drink the medically recommended maximum intake for a week each and every day... not pretty!
(And neither was I!)

Debbs how are you? Are you OK? I was watching the Olympic opening ceremony thinking of you half the time. I half expected to see you in the crowds somewhere and I thought I bet she's really happy. Now I'm not so sure. Come back please!
